Do I want to grow a business, rather than build one from scratch?Some entrepreneurs want to bring their own unique ideas to life from conception to realization. Others would rather take someone elses idea and further develop it. If you fall into the latter category, franchising might be a good option for you.As a franchisee, you are in the business of growing a business, said Terry Powell, entrepreneur and visionary founder at The Entrepreneur   s Source. It may not be necessary to have past knowledge of the industry youre entering into, but it is necessary to follow the systems put in place and drive toward constant growth.2. Am I willing to follow rules?Franchisees succeed when they adhere to the guidelines set in place by their parent companies, said Chris Conner, franchise consultant with Franchise Marketing Systems. The ideal franchise candidate has the skill set to be an entrepreneur but the makeup of a solid employee  someone whos willing to run a business according to the established system, he said.Franchisees typically have good credit scores, pay their bills on time and were usually good students, Conner said. They are comfortable with structure and rules.3. Do I have specific goals in mind?Powell said that good franchisees have set goals, needs and expectations, and know how they can leverage the business as a vehicle to meet those aspirations.It is not about having a love affair with the product or service. It    is about what the business can do for you, Powell said.4. Can I afford the financial risks?Conner said new franchisees often make the mistake of believing that all the risk has been franchised out of the business, so they cant fail.Franchises provide security, optimal opportunity, mentorship and many benefits to franchisees. But in the end, it is still a business, which always comes with  the potential for failure, he said. Always take the worst-case examples into account.5. Do I have a business mentor I can turn to?As a franchisee, youll benefit from the training and support of your parent company, but no matter what industry or type of business youre in, you should have a trusted mentor or coach to rely on for help and advice.A coach can be a great sounding board and help you see beyond your blind spots to challenge you to look at things from a different perspective, Powell said. Whether consulting a  business owner or an alternative-career coach, do not be afraid to ask for help.   Ask questions like the ones above before investing in a franchise. Self-evaluating yourself before purchasing a franchise can help you make a plan of action.Strategies are always essential for success, said Mills. The worst-case scenario you get a call about a position you cant exactly remember, you panic, and then you ask, Which job is this for?Dont let that happen to you. Keeping track of your applications isimperative, sotrack the jobs for which youve applied and your follow-up responses using these seven tips.1. Write down a list of your contact informationFor an efficient job search, its useful to make a list of contacts, your communications with these people, and the strength of your relationship. One place to get this information in order is on the zugnglich career management tool JibberJobber. There, you can track of every job application, as well as m   aking lists of information about useful contacts in your application process.2. Make lists of where youve appliedAn Excel spreadsheet can help you stay organized in your job application process. Making tables of the company name, contact information, contact, position for which you applied, and date the application was submitted can save you time and energy in the long run.3. List jobs to which you plan to applyYou dont want to miss applying for a position you want because you missed the application due date. Plenty of career searching websites let you save positions for which you want to apply. Keep a separate list of applications you havent finished yetYou also want to keep a list of applications youre working on, but you havent yet finished. In your list, make sure    youve musiknoted the organization, the due date of the application, the materials you have finished, and the materials you have left to complete. If you work on applications across several computers, you might want to have this spreadsheet on the cloud, perhaps on the long-standing favorite, Google Drive.5. musiknote which optimized version of your resume you sent whereBefore you send out a resume, you want to make sure your keywords match those on the job posting. Then, when you follow up in a timely and well-catalogued way with an email, youll also have notes about what you talked about with the hiring manager previously. If you mention why youre writing  and note what the two of you talked about before  youll be on your way to crafting a memorable follow-up.Whether your preferred method of tracking every job application is    through an Excel spreadsheet, a mobile app, or both, its important to keep abreast of your materials.
